Banana Leaf(Podium): A Taste of the South East

‘Twas my parents anniversary, and we (my sister and I) decided to treat the family to dinner. As usual, I’ve been tasked to search for a good restaurant that serves food that we have never tried before. I’ve been hearing about Banana Leaf as one of the Philippine Tatler’s Best Restaurant in 2011. And decided to might as well try the food that they offer.

Banana Leaf offers modern Malaysian, Singaporean, Thai, Indian, Vietnamese and Indonesian Cuisine. Upon entering the restaurant, I instantly loved the cozy atmosphere of the place. What’s even more interesting was the fact that you would not see any plates here, for everyone would be required to eat at banana leaves, itself. :) Cool, right?

What we ordered:

Pomelo Salad Thai Style (P138)

Malayan Beef Rendang (P238)

Deep Fried Crispy Chicken Malayan Style (P278)

Stir fried Mussels with Sweet Chili Sauce (P238)

Malayan Chicken Curry with Potatoes (P238)

Stir fried Chinese Kangkong with sambal sauce (P168)

Its no wonder Banana Leaf has already won tons of awards: the food was impeccable, the ingredients they use was with quality, and the taste was really delish. :D I love every dish that we ordered, and I would definitely come back for more.

Cheers! :)

My New Addiction: J.Co Donuts

Nothing is sweeter than the togetherness we share.

Yes, I’m addicted, to DONUTS. To J.Co Donuts, to be more specific.

I still remember those days when we would go to Krispy Kreme or Gonuts Donuts, and I can’t even finish a single donut. Back then, I used to find it super sweet, for my taste, that all I could really eat was 3 pieces of Dunkin Donuts’ Choco Honey Dip Munchkins. Yes, hanggang munchkins lang ang carry ko and, yes, I was really not a fan of donuts, back then.

Until a certain J.Co opened its doors at SM Megamall. I was just curious, you see. I don’t have that much expectations, as I know that I don’t really like donuts per se.  I thought, that its worth a visit, given that if I would not like their donuts, at least then I can order their frozen yogurt.

J.Co donuts opened its first Branch in Indonesia. They offer donuts with unique flavors and ingredients from all over the world. It first opened its doors here in the Philippines last March 15, 2012.

Inside J.Co (Picture from J.Co’s FB Page)

One thing that I love about J.Co is its store’s ambiance that’s both relaxed and cool at the same time. They have these super comfy sofas, that would make you want to stay there and share stories with your friends all day.

Choco caviar Strawberry (Sorry for the super blurred photo)- It looks super sweet, but upon first bite, you’ll realize that its not too sweet at all. I love the ‘caviar’ chocolate, that adds this crunchy texture on the donut itself. :)

Alcapone- MY FAVORITE! :) It has white Belgian chocolate topped with Californian almond slices. I am a sucker for almonds, so I’m biased with this. But the white chocolate is really good too, its not that sweet, which is a plus factor for me.

Blueberry More :)- Blueberry cheesecake donut! It is filled with a light cream cheese, that is super yummy. Spell heavenly! :D

J.Co has a wide selection of donuts and drinks. What I love about their donuts is its super soft, delicious and not super sweet at all. I could actually finish 4 pieces in one seating. Haha!

We also tried their Fat Free Frozen Yogurt, which is really good. I love how it tastes like flavored yogurt when in fact it is just plain yogurt that is so delicious. The selection of toppings was plenty, and they put the toppings of your choice quite generously, so two thumbs up for that!

Right now, while I am writing this entry, I can’t help but imagine, all those other flavors that I want to try……

Can’t wait to go back for more!

Conti’s: Home of Culinary Treasures

A place that brings family and friends together.

One Saturday, Nic and I decided to have dinner at Conti’s Serendra, just because I was craving for their Mango Bravo. Haha. I must admit that though their cakes are one of my favorites, I have never really eaten at this place. For the reason that either the restaurant itself is always full, or we just have other restaurant in mind. :)

What we ordered:

I got the Tofu Steak, because I feel like eating healthy that day.

Tofu Steak (P205)- Healthy chunks of Tofu stir fried with shiitake mushrooms, seasoned and served with crab salad and japanese rice.

Nic ordered the Chicken Ballotine….

Chicken Ballotine (P250)- Meat-stuffed boneless chicken breast rolled in creamy sauce and served with buttered vegetables and garlic rice

I really liked everything about the tofu steak. It was light and super flavorful at the same time. The tofu with the mushrooms were seasoned well, and it was really tasty. The japanese rice was really delicious, I could actually eat only this without any viand whatsoever. :D The crab or kani salad goes really well with the whole meal. And yes, I would never hesitate to order this again whenever we dine at Conti’s. :)

I got to taste the Chicken Ballotine and it was yummy as well. The chicken was really tender and tasty. Nic liked it so much, that he finished it almost in an instant. Hehe.

And of course, my uber favorite, Mango Bravo. :) Kailangan pa bang imemorize yan? hahahahha. :))

I actually liked dining at Conti’s. They have a wide array of food that you can choose from, and upon tasting it you’ll know why Conti’s is the home of culinary treasures.

Til next time Conti’s. :)
